Environmental issues are now at the heart of global concerns. Aware of our role as a transmitter, we wish to l'école M We are aware of our role as a transmitter of information and we want to raise awareness and enable children to become involved in an eco-citizen approach from a very early age. This year, the school is making a long-term commitment to sustainable development by joining the Eco-Ecole.

On the way to obtaining the Eco-School label

  • What is the eco-school project?

Atécole M, raising our students' awareness of sustainable development, ecology, environmental preservation, recycling and eco-actions is a priority so that they become aware, from an early age, of their impact on the planet and become eco-citizens. We have decided to frame our environmental approach by joining the Eco schoolprogramme, an international programme for education for sustainable development (ESD), supported by the Ministry of National Education

From October 2019, with the help of parents, we are committed to becoming a clean and responsible school.

Our goal is to engage all the actors of our kindergarten in a solid and lasting way in sustainable development: children and teachersWe want to be actors in the ecological transition and to pass on to our pupils sustainable citizenship values in terms of environmental protection. Together, we wish to be actors of the ecological transition and to transmit to our pupils sustainable citizen values in the field of ecology. Issued by the association Teragirthe label Eco-school label seems to us to be the most appropriate approach to respond to the 17 sustainable development objectives set by the UN in the framework of theAgenda 2030.

  • Our school project for the 2019-20 school year: waste

As part of our sustainable approach, this year we have collectively chosen the theme of waste.

After a diagnosis of the state of our school in the 19th arrondissement with volunteer parents and the teaching team, the steering committee met three times to set up and monitor an action plan to improve the ecological footprint of école M and its community.

Since January 2020, we have :

  • Purchased sorting bins and implemented waste sorting rules including recycling of organic waste in the classrooms and kitchen area of the school.

  • Trained our team in ecology and sustainable development.

  • Carried out educational sequences on the theme of waste with children.

As soon as the containment is over, we will organise two events around the theme of waste. The first event will take place on Friday 5 June 2020: the whole school community will be invited to collect waste with the children on the Allée Darius Milhaud.

Later in the year, as we do every year, we plan to organise a picnic before the summer holidays. This year we have decided to challenge families to bring a zero waste meal with them, i.e. without any disposable packaging.

These days will be organised by the teaching staff in close collaboration with the children and their families.

Theécole M : a clean and committed educational community

In order to be able to coordinate our actions within all M schools, we have defined a common sustainable development policy for all. This policy will be applied to all the actors in the schools and will evolve over time in line with advances in the field of ecology.

Our sustainability policy was drafted by representatives of theécole M education community, drawing on current best practice (including from the Guide des Familles de France, EDF eco-citizen actions at school, the energy explorers).

For concrete action, we have grouped together good practices called "Ecogestures" to be applied daily by the children, teachers parents and the management within the school. These ecogestures can and should also be applied at home!

  • Save water when washing hands.

  • Finish your plate at lunchtime to avoid food waste.

  • Use scrap paper to do the different activities.

  • Sort the class waste into the different coloured bins.

  • Respect the vegetation in the park during and outside school hours.

Our environmental approach will evolve in line with the various projects.

Convinced of the infinite potential of children, atécole M, we pass on knowledge and values on a daily basis that can enable everyone to be an actor and committed to the ecological transition. Through the Eco-school programme and thanks to the commitment of all those involved in the project, many changes have been made this year and new initiatives will emerge in the years to come!
