Environmental issues are now at the heart of global concerns. Aware of our role as a transmitter, we atécole Mwish to raise awareness and enable children to become involved in an eco-citizen approach from an early age. This year, the school is making a long-term commitment to sustainable development by joining the Eco-Ecole programme.

• What is the eco-school project?

À l’école M, sensibiliser nos élèves au développement durable, à l’écologie, à la préservation de l’environnement, au recyclage et aux écogestes est une priorité pour qu’ils prennent conscience, dès leur plus jeune âge, de leur impact sur la planète et deviennent des écocitoyens. Nous avons décidé d’encadrer notre démarche environnementale en rejoignant le programme Eco école, un programme international d’éducation au développement durable (EDD), soutenu par le ministère de L'Éducation Nationale.

From October 2019, with the help of parents, we are committed to becoming a clean and responsible school.

Notre objectif est d’engager solidement et durablement tous les acteurs de notre école maternelle dans le développement durable : enfants et enseignants, direction, personnel et parents, ainsi que tous nos partenaires. Ensemble, nous souhaitons être acteurs de la transition écologique et transmettre à nos élèves des valeurs citoyennes durables en matière d’écologie. Délivré par l’association Teragir, le label Eco-Ecole nous semble la démarche la plus adaptée pour répondre aux 17 objectifs de développement durable fixés par l’ONU dans le cadre de l’Agenda 2030.

• Our school project for the 2019-20 school year: waste

As part of our sustainable approach, this year we have collectively chosen the theme of waste.

After a diagnosis of the state of our school in the 19th arrondissement with volunteer parents and the teaching team, the steering committee met three times to set up and monitor an action plan to improve the ecological footprint of école M and its community.  

Since January 2020, we have :

• Purchased sorting bins and implemented waste sorting rules including recycling of organic waste in the classrooms and kitchen area of the school.

• Défini la politique de développement durable de l’école, qui détaille les règles et écogestes à appliquer au sein de l’école et à la maison.

• Trained our team in ecology and sustainable development.

• Carried out educational sequences on the theme of waste with children.

As soon as the containment is over, we will organise two events around the theme of waste. The first event will take place on Friday 5 June 2020: the whole school community will be invited to collect waste with the children on the Allée Darius Milhaud.

Later in the year, as we do every year, we plan to organise a picnic before the summer holidays. This year we have decided to challenge families to bring a zero waste meal with them, i.e. without any disposable packaging.  

These days will be organised by the teaching staff in close collaboration with the children and their families.
